Hands down this is the best sunrise I've ever seen in my life. The sky exploded with color for an hour over the Painted Ladies, a gorgeous row of Victorian homes, and downtown San Francisco. As I stood there gazing in wonder at the scene in front of me, I noticed dozens of people pulling their cars over to get out and take pictures with their phones. A once in a lifetime moment.
The view of Paris from Montparnasse Tower is unsurpassed. I stood there on a Sunday evening for a few hours mesmerized as sunset faded into blue hour in spectacular fashion over the City of Lights.
This one was just a lucky shot. I was walking down the road trying to get a good angle of Big Ben and then the double decker bus passed by right as i took the picture. The results speak for themselves.
My original plan for this composition was to stand in the middle of the Trocadero Fountain but the water jets were on, ruining any chance of a good reflection shot. So I went with plan B, positioning my camera and tripod right on the edge of the Trocadero water cannons aiming directly at the Eiffel Tower. It was overcast that day with a very muted sunrise so I used a 10 stop ND filter to streak the clouds and spread the early morning colors across the sky.
Its hard to get a great picture during the regular hours of the day. There are a lot of people and the sun is bright and doesn't give off great lighting. So when it started the rain, not only did the people disperse but the colors of the temple became more pronounced and the results are amazing.
Fairy Pools on the isle of Skye. After scouting this place for 4 days in a row I finally composed the shot I wanted. Though not so much water was flowing, the sun just hitting the tip of the mountain in the backdrop is the cherry on the top.
Tracy Arm Fjord (45 miles south of Juneau) Alaska. A photographer's dream. The ice is on the thaw in May - the bears, orcas and deer abound. Our Captain took us to the 18-mile pole (that's deep into the fjord). This was one of a dozens of images shot and exemplifies the pristine wilderness of this majestic fjord. Truly stunning landscape. Hand-held ISO 100, 105mm and 1/15th at f19.
I really wanted to shoot the Louvre with this specific composition in mind but it had been raining steadily for hours. Umbrella in hand, I decided to focus on a blue hour shot, combining the soft ambient light with the beautiful building lights. The benefit of shooting on a rainy evening is that I was able to get this with no other people in the picture. I love the harmony of this image with the warm tones in the buildings and lights balancing the cool blues of the sky and the wonderful reflections of the Louvre Palace and Pyramid. Definitely worth standing out in the rain with an umbrella over my camera setup for an hour.
So many cultures pass through modern-day Turkey, but the seats of some of the most powerful ancient empires have risen and fallen within its borders. There are very few places on earth with as rich a history as Istanbul, and in its architecture you can find countless stories. Generations have passed through the walls of the Blue Mosque, and the beautiful tiling and inscriptions are unforgettable.
This probably has to be one of the most favorite pictures I've taken so far. I ran out in the middle of the street and placed my camera on the ground for a long exposure as cars were flying by me. Probably one of the most dangerous things I've done but it was well worth the picture I got out of it.
While most people will head for the well known left side sunset sand dune in Jericoacoara, I went to the right side of the beach. I managed to capture a man on his paddle board capturing his last wave of the day while the sun sets for the night, only to be back several hours later to shine on the many early birds in search for new waves. Such a magnificent moment.
On a recent Visit to China I Visited the city of Xian walking along the City wall i captured the sunset with the colours adding for a dramatic photo.
An idyllic sunset at the famous Barbaresco vineyards located in the Piedmont region of northern Italy.
Unfortunately by the time I reached the stunning combination of the Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls – about 18 miles out of Juneau Alaska – it was pretty much dark. Boosted ISO to 640 and grabbed the long shot at f19 and 1/8th sec . This 13 mile Glacier and the surrounding Tongass National Forest deserves days, not hours, to do it and the photographer justice.
It was our first day in Havana. We went straight to the Plaza de Armas, where I was immediately entranced by the lovely, faded old buildings; I thought I would never be able to take enough pictures of them! (All of Old Havana is a World Heritage Site.) An hour later, from a rooftop restaurant, I found this view of the Palacio de Los Capitanes Generales-looking over its roof across the Canal to the fortress and Castillo beyond. I took three exposures at -1, 0, and +1 EV, and made them into an HDR when I got home. Old Havana just seemed like a natural subject for HDR's; I made several from my photos of this trip.
Ireland is a beautiful and friendly country with countless scenic vistas. The Cliffs of Moher are well-known for their beauty, but standing right at the edge of some of their tallest edges, I found something different in the way the sun hit the water and the land. This is a trip I won't soon forget.
